Graphics- Evaluation

My Final Typography

Aspex gallery is holding an exhibition of music related art: posters, album covers, flyers and lyric inspired art. They are requesting A3 typography artwork celebrating songs that have inspired generations.

I decided to respond to this brief by investigating songs that i found inspirational. The songs i considered were:
Wonderwall- Oasis
Black or White - Michael Jackson
Where is the Love - Black Eye Peas
Back to Black - Amy Whinehouse
Photograph - Ed Sheeran
Pretty Hurts - Beyonce

I settled on Ed Sheeran - Photograph because its inspirational and it has meaningful lyrics. I decided to use the form of Transitional System to create my typography piece.
I experimented with different ways to create it using different colours for the background and words. I started with the background black and letters white to make them stand out. I made it portrait so the words can fall down the page. I developed it by adding more words to it so the page doesn't look to sparse and can fill the page. I did lots experimentation before finalised on the one i liked. The experiments i have done were to make the words smaller to fit more lyrics on to the page. I also experimented with the Radial System with having the background white and letters in black, i didn't like this design because it didn't show what i wanted and i didn't enjoy creating it like i did for the other ones.
By developing even further i made the page landscape and changed the background to a light teal colour. I prefer this one because it looked better and it had more of a variety of fonts also i feel that this one is the best because it shows what i want it to by having certain words distorted by the way that the lyrics are said.

I feel my work meet the requirements in the brief in the way that i have experimented with 2 different systems of typography and developed my best one out of 3. By having they final one with the teal background i feel like that one shows what i want it to and comes across more ascetically pleasing.

Kate Morros

I feel like Kate Moross inspired me because her work is very free and doesn't have any harsh lines by the lettering and a good majority of my fonts have fluidity and the way that they have been put together. Moross also uses the Transitional System for her work which i have used as-well. I have also used white for the words just like Moross dose in some of her work with a pale background.
