The purpose of the brief was to create a surface design for a box for a new high-end piece of jewellery inspired by the Punk movement. This will be presented with 6 small samples and one 8-8cm larger panels.
My idea was to create a Lino Print with the word 'PUNK' on it but elongating the letters and also cutting out the blank space around the letters and creating effective lines around it when cutting the black space out. I printed the lino with white ink and black paper because they were the most punkiest colors and I have experimented with other colors as well. The audience would defiantly associate it with punk because it clearly says it on the design.
The materials and techniques I used were Lino Printing because I think it gave the best effect instead of the other experiment like Clay and Repousse. The Lino gave ait a punkie feel to it buy cutting out the blank space. I feel the work is successful because you can clearly see what you are trying to put across with the piece surface design.
I wouldn't alter anything because I think that it came out exactly how I wanted it to. I would only do more experimentation with the other designs and techniques.
I feel that my work meets the requirements of the brief because I feel that it shows the individuality of Vivienne Westwood whilst portraying the Punk era.
This is what my final surface design looks like and also the Lino that I prinked it with.
Lucienne Day
I feel that this artist has inspired my work because her work is very structured and has strong lines. She inspired my work because my work has strong lines and and good structure to it.
The one thing that is different from mine and hers is that she involves bright colours and i have only used black and white.
